Mara Intrepids Camp
Sustainability
This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.
Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:
Mara Intrepids Camp supports the local people by employing them and providing the local community with some basic amenities.
Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
Mara Intrepids, together with its sister camp Mara Explorer Camp, has been supporting the locals since they started. At Mara Intrepids Camp, almost all staff are Masai People and hence the camp has a very strong and close relationship with the local Masai community.
The camp shares some of its profit with the local community by supporting community projects and environment awareness training for the locals. The camp has been supporting both primary schools and the medical clinics which are not well equipped by the government. The camp is run under strict eco-principles and biodegrade waste that is mulched for compost; they also recycle waste water using their own on site constructed wetland. This is very encouraging!
